We conserve and care for land in Oakland, Macomb, Lapeer and Genesee Counties -- within the watersheds of the Huron, Flint, Shiawassee, Rouge, Belle and Clinton rivers. Whether we are working on the shores of Lake St. Clair, in the farmlands along the Flint and Clinton rivers, or in the suburban Rouge River Corridor of Southfield, Beverly Hills, and Birmingham, we use innovative partnerships and science-based stewardship techniques.
Our board and staff are personally connected to natural places -- whether they are horse trails, creeks teeming with frogs, beautiful spring wildflowers, or a Great Blue Heron rookery.
We currently conserve 872 acres:
101 acres are held in six Conservancy-owned nature preserves
771 acres are protected in 17 conservation easements
We have transferred ownership of the 82-acre Lake George Nature Preserve to Addison Township. They now own and operate the property as the Lake George Nature Park.
CONSERVANCY PRESERVES
Conservancy preserves are lands that are owned and protected by the Six Rivers Regional Land Conservancy. The Conservancy manages a total of acres as five nature preserves. Most of the Conservancy’s preserves are hard to access, so we ask that they receive limited public visitation. The Golden Preserve is open to the public for quiet enjoyment as well as workdays, tours, and special events.
CONSERVANCY CONSERVATION EASEMENTS
The Six Rivers Regional Land Conservancy protects a total of 771 acres in seventeen conservation easements. The Conservancy monitors the easements annually, assists with stewardship and management, and has the right to legally defend the easement if needed.
STEWARDSHIP PARTNERSHIP PROJECTS
Six Rivers Regional Land Conservancy has a total of approximately 220 acres under our Stewardship Assistance program. These are areas that we monitor and steward but which are not actually owned or protected by the Conservancy. Funding for these projects comes from the landowner or from support in the local community.
PROTECTION ASSISTANCE PROJECTS
Six Rivers Regional Land Conservancy occasionally provides significant assistance to communities and non-profits to help them meet their land protection goals. Assistance provided may include landowner negotiation, field studies, creation of legal documents, and assistance in obtaining acquisition funding.
