Golden Preserve

Under the protection Six Rivers Land Conservancy since 2005, the Golden Preserve for Biological Diversity is located in Springfield Township, in close proximity to several township and county parks. This 30-acre preserve is nestled in the main branch of the Shiawassee River in the headwaters of the Shiawassee River watershed. The Golden Preserve is especially noteworthy for containing an impressive array of ecosystems, including a prairie fen, a remnant dry sand prairie, wooded wetlands, and dry-mesic forest. Walking through this preserve is like taking a tour of high-quality habitats of Southeast Michigan as prairie becomes forest and forest becomes fen. We’ve seen beavers, nesting turkeys, blue racers, and a variety of raptors and songbirds throughout the preserve.
